Today on the podcast we have a special guest, Mary Pat “MP” Sass. MP is a highlight speaker in the Cattleman U membership in January and we wanted to have her on the podcast to give listeners an idea of the quality of speakers inside of the membership along with a sneak peek at the kind of conversations and topics we cover.

Mary Pat, “MP” is a midwestern farm wife and mom from Northern Illinois. She left her corporate career in agriculture technology to be a stay-at-home mom and become more involved on the family farm.  What she thought was her dream job turned out to be the one thing keeping her from living her dream life. Now, she works to inspire others to find what makes them happy and live a joy-filled life.

MP has started two of her own businesses. First marketing cheese from her dairy roots in Wisconsin, The Cheesery. She is about to launch a business to help farm and ranch families preserve their memories, Grounded Journals.  She uses her social media to inspire others while telling her farm family’s story.

In this episode, Embracing the Evolution of Your Role on the Operation with MP Sass, we cover:

  • The challenges and opportunities of farming with family

  • Prioritizing family time and your mental health

  • Not being afraid to think outside the box and do things differently

  • Being your own advocate

  • Suggestions on having hard conversations and how to navigate taboo topics

  • The importance of setting goals; individually, as a family, and as an operation
