Today on the show, we talk about the beast that is building a direct to consumer business, and benefitting from all the opportunities it has to offer. Our guest, Sara Shivers, discusses the advantages of value added programs, as well as all the dynamics that go along with them. This conversation covers everything from the family business structure to becoming a successful entrepreneur.

Sara Shivers is the owner/operator of Salt Creek Farm, a direct to consumer and restaurant business that sells beef, lamb, chicken and honey.  She is also a partner in her family's Angus cow calf operation, Rafter S Ranch.  Sara has degrees from Kansas State University and the University of North Texas.  After moving back home to Kansas in 2014 to her family's ranch, Sara's dad told her they needed to find a better way to market their cattle.  Salt Creek Farm was formed soon after that and began selling to restaurants in Kansas City and Wichita and increased its retail sales during 2020.  In fall of 2022, she opened Salt Creek Farm Market in her hometown of Eureka, KS selling their beef, lamb, chicken, and honey from the ranch as well as other local products.  Sara plans on continuing to grow Salt Creek Farm into a regional wholesale supplier as well as increased shipping nationwide.
