Today on the show, we visited with Elizabeth Thomas from Thomas Cattle Company about the ins and outs of the direct to consumer business. Elizabeth works on their family operation, run by two generations of livestock producers. She discusses her passion for thoughtful business planning to accomplish great things in an effort to provide quality beef. The personal connections they make marketing beef directly to the customer are a unique joy that continues to boost the industry in a multitude of ways.

Thomas Cattle raises commercial Angus, and sells direct to consumer beef ¼, ½ or whole shares, as well as small bundles. The Thomas family lives and ranches in Oreana, ID and their ranching history dates back multiple generations. They aim to take care of the land they steward because it is an important part of their success and hope to pass down the ranch to their kids for generations to come.

In this episode Directly From the Source with Elizabeth Thomas we cover:

  • The acknowledgement that the operation has to be a sustainable business if it’s going to support the family legacy for generations to come.

  • The positive ways a business mindset can impact the operation.

  • The Thomas Cattle Company story of where they started to where they are now and some of the valuable lessons they learned along the way.

  • The joy Elizabeth finds in sharing a piece of their team’s hard work with the surrounding community and beyond.

  • Differences between the boxed beef and direct to consumer businesses, and so much more!
